Mark 5: 25-34, tells the story of a woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years. For 12 years she suffered with this ailment not knowing why and having no cure.During this time, when women would experience their normal cycle that lasted for seven days, they were considered unclean and separated, also any man that touched her at that time was also considered unclean. Lev 15:19 - And if a woman have an issue, [and] her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. So for a woman to have a flow of blood for that length of time was viewed as a sin.
Can you imagine what she must have gone through, all that she suffered! She was surely outcast, ridiculed and mistreated. For 12 years, she had no resolution. She had spent everything she had going to doctor after doctor trying to get cured of this, and when her money ran out, so did the doctors. In her time of need, in her despair, no one was able to help. Then she found out that Jesus, the son of God, was coming and she knew that this was her only chance to be healed! She had known of all the miracles He had done and believed that she too, could be made whole. So when He came, she risked her life to go to Him. She was probably tormented, yelled at, kicked, because she crawled on her hands and knees. This woman continued to press through all the people that were there, this huge crowd because of her faith! Mark 5:28 - For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And when she touched just the hem of his garment, she was healed. To God, be the glory!
Like this woman, who did not have a name, we should press on in faith. We spend so much time dependant and worried about things of the world, things we have no control over. How many times have you said, “I can’t do this or that or I will loose my job” or “I can’t do this or that because I am scared” or “I can’t … you fill in the blank. I lost track of how many times, I say it.When things get too hard to handle, instead of pressing towards God, we have a tendency to turn from Him and run into the hands of satan because we start to depend on our own strength, our own knowledge, and our own abilities. Like this woman did in the beginning, we give everything we have to a world that cheats us, abuses us, and then leaves us all used up!But, thank God that Christ came! Now we have the opportunity to be whole! So, like this woman, press through the angry crowd of haters, doubters and nay sayers, and let’s live out our lives in a way that shows our FAITH!James 2:26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.Sarita Hill - GMBSCA JR Mission President
